Domestic violence
What is domestic violence?: domestic violence is an aggressive attitude or behavior in the home involving the violent abuse of a spouse or partner.
Domestic violence has been one major issue in marriage and relationships and it has been a major cause of broken marriage and relationships. But what do you think is the cause of domestic violence?
I can recall one of my friends telling me how his Dad usually beats his mum when he was still little. So one day, he approached his dad calmly to ask him why he always beat his mum and the dad told him that the mum talks to him with disrespect and also disrespects him. Then my friend asked his dad if that’s all, and the dad said yes.
Now let me say this; women are meant to be loved and men are meant to be respected respectively, in a marriage/relationship whereby the man is not respected by his partner, that man will hardly love the partner in return.
Marriage/relationship demands patience and perseverance. The man should love his partner and the partner in return respect his man.
So now what do you think is the reason for domestic violence?
Most domestic abusers grew up witnessing domestic abuse and violence in their own homes. They learned to view physical and emotional violence as valid ways to vent anger and perception issues. The modeling they saw while growing up gets reinforced in these ways:
• They have established tremendous control over others through abuse tactics
• They have used violence and abuse tactics to solve problem in the past.
Common things that triggers domestic violence:
• Disagreement with Their intimate partner
• Financial issues
• Depression when partner threatens to leave
• Jealousy and envy
Psychopathology believes that abusive attitude develops by growing up in an abusive household and this, causes domestic violence to continue as a generational legacy. This destroys a Childs ability to control emotions thereby making him/her hostile, dependent, and emotionally insecure with deeply impaired ability to develop and maintain healthy relationships.
Even though the causes of domestic violence remains poorly understood, it’s critical that society stands strong against Domestic Violence and support laws and social programs put in place to stop the cycle.
Solutions:
Solutions to domestic violence need to include both short and long-term strategies. Short term strategies should make up of assistance programs that defend the partner who has been abused or who is witnessing abuse currently. By giving the victim every support needed both financially and otherwise.
Long-term strategy is aimed at educating the public and empowering the victim to reinstate her life without violence. It includes developing programs that create atmosphere of anti-domestic violence in the community.
